Carolena Nericcio-Bohlman

Carolena Nericcio-Bohlman is the dynamic founder of the worldwide dance phenomenon called American Tribal Style® Dance.

An early fascination of permanent body adornment lead 8-year old Carolena to request that her father, Carl, a collector himself, to buy a ring she could “wear always and not take off.” This concept evolved into the study of folkloric textiles, a body full of tattoos and a collection of jewelry and textiles from around the world.

The discovery of belly dance led to the creation of her own dance style, American Tribal Style® (ATS®) Belly Dance. FatChanceBellyDance® was founded by Carolena Nericcio-Bohlman in 1987 and immediately captured the attention of audiences worldwide with stunning dance performances featuring majestic costuming and layers of tribal jewelry. The music, a carefully chosen collection of both traditional sounds and modern fusion adds to the effect. American Tribal Style® looks old, but it is actually new.

Megha Gavin

Unfortunately, Megha will not be able to teach at ATS Reunion this year.
Megha is the Director of Devyani Dance Company and Co-Director of Tribal Pura International. She administrates the Sister Studio Continuing Education program and Advanced Teacher Training programs offered by Tribal Pura International, a division of FatChanceBelllyDance®.

Megha began performing very early in life. She took her first dance classes at about the age of four and has been creating and performing ever since. Theatre soon caught her attention and that was her passion throughout her schooling years. It was in 1996 that she discovered American Tribal Style® Bellydance and immediately shifted her focus to this art form. In San Francisco, Megha studied ATS® with the originator of the style from 1996-1998. Upon returning to the Southeast, she began teaching ATS® classes in order to create a community of people to dance with. She was the first to offer these classes in this region and has continued teaching pure ATS for the last 18 years.

She continues to teach and perform at sold out workshops across the country and around the world both individually and on the Tribal Pura International tour with her teacher/partner, Carolena Nericcio-Bohlman. In 2003 Megha completed teacher certification with Carolena Nericcio (creator of ATS® and founder of FatChance BellyDance®) and entered into an exclusive partnership with her. They now take their love and appreciation of this elegant dance style in its original form on the road to co-teach the technique and artistic vision created by Carolena over the last 25 years.

Anita Lalwani

Growing up in Fairview Park, Ohio, Anita Lalwani was a bookworm. While she dabbled in athletics (tennis, skiing, and even synchronized swimming!), it was not until she moved to San Francisco and met Carolena Nericcio-Bohlman that she fell in love with American Tribal Style® (ATS®) bellydance. She has devoted her life to helping others find happiness through movement.

A certified yoga teacher since 2005, Anita currently teaches four vinyasa flow and two yin/restorative yoga classes per week at the Fitness SF gyms in the Castro and mid-market neighborhoods in San Francisco. In 2008, she added one-on-one personal fitness training to her workload, and currently averages 15 to 20 clients per week. Her clients range from young to old, injured to athletic, and businesslike to artsy. No matter what their goals, she gently nurtures them to honor the gift of the body by optimizing their posture and movement patterns.

Anita has been dancing with FatChanceBellyDance® and instructing classes for well over a decade. In her workshops and classes, Anita shares with her students her passion and belief in the transformative power of music and dance. “As a dancer, it’s taken me a long time and on my dance journey, I have made every possible mistake you could possibly make. Let me help you understand and recognize that the mistakes you are making are a crucial component of your learning process. …And maybe I can help you avoid making the mistakes I’ve made!” You can find Anita on Facebook (once in a while), on her website, or at

Carrie Meyer

Carrie Meyer, Photographer/The Dancers Eye, has had an interest in cameras and photography from a very young age, when her parents first allowed her to experiment with several of their cameras. She fondly remembers her first Kodak Instamatic, and the variety of fun shots she was able to capture with it. Carrie began belly dancing in 2001. She sought to find a workout that would inspire her to keep the weight off, while not being tied to the gym. Little did she know at the time that this was just the beginning of a love affair with dance that has now spanned over a decade.

In this period of time, she has learned traditional Egyptian, ATS and Fusion, and has danced in groups that have featured all these styles. Carrie has actively danced in several St. Louis based performing groups for over a decade. Regardless of the photographic subject matter, Carrie’s work shares certain commonalities. The clarity of the images represented, thoughtful composition, and the meaning of the moments in time that she captures characterize her work. The foundation of her work builds out from the strength and power of the basic images, and the personality, of her subjects. Having married her love of belly dance with her love of photography, Carrie offers her dancer subjects a unique opportunity to work with an artist who truly understands the dance, and how dancers want themselves to be portrayed. Carrie’s work has been featured on the covers of Shimmy, Fuse, Jareeda, and Zagareet and in the pages of Yallah and The ATS Magazine, among other publications.
