Carolena Nericcio-Bohlman

Carolena Nericcio-Bohlman
Carolena Nericcio-Bohlman is the dynamic founder of the worldwide dance phenomenon called American Tribal Style® Dance. An early fascination of permanent body adornment lead 8-year old Carolena to request that her father, Carl, a collector himself, to buy a ring she could “wear always and not take off.” This concept evolved into the study of folkloric textiles, a body full of tattoos and a collection of jewelry and textiles from around the world. The discovery of belly dance led to the creation of her own dance style, American Tribal Style® (ATS®) Belly Dance.

FatChanceBellyDance® was founded by Carolena Nericcio-Bohlman in 1987 and immediately captured the attention of audiences worldwide with stunning dance performances featuring majestic costuming and layers of tribal jewelry. The music, a carefully chosen collection of both traditional sounds and modern fusion adds to the effect. American Tribal Style® looks old, but it is actually new.

Megha Gavin

Megha Gavin
Megha is the Director of Devyani Dance Company and Co-Director of Tribal Pura International. She administrates the Sister Studio Continuing Education program and Advanced Teacher Training programs offered by Tribal Pura International, a division of FatChanceBelllyDance®.

Megha began performing very early in life. She took her first dance classes at about the age of four and has been creating and performing ever since. Theatre soon caught her attention and that was her passion throughout her schooling years. It was in 1996 that she discovered American Tribal Style® Bellydance and immediately shifted her focus to this art form. In San Francisco, Megha studied ATS® with the originator of the style from 1996-1998. Upon returning to the Southeast, she began teaching ATS® classes in order to create a community of people to dance with. She was the first to offer these classes in this region and has continued teaching pure ATS for the last 18 years.

She continues to teach and perform at sold out workshops across the country and around the world both individually and on the Tribal Pura International tour with her teacher/partner, Carolena Nericcio-Bohlman. In 2003 Megha completed teacher certification with Carolena Nericcio (creator of ATS® and founder of FatChance BellyDance®) and entered into an exclusive partnership with her. They now take their love and appreciation of this elegant dance style in its original form on the road to co-teach the technique and artistic vision created by Carolena over the last 25 years.

Anita Lalwani

Anita Lalwani
Growing up in Fairview Park, Ohio, Anita Lalwani was a bookworm. While she dabbled in athletics (tennis, skiing, and even synchronized swimming!), it was not until she moved to San Francisco and met Carolena Nericcio-Bohlman that she fell in love with American Tribal Style® (ATS®) bellydance. She has devoted her life to helping others find happiness through movement.

A certified yoga teacher since 2005, Anita currently teaches four vinyasa flow and two yin/restorative yoga classes per week at the Fitness SF gyms in the Castro and mid-market neighborhoods in San Francisco. In 2008, she added one-on-one personal fitness training to her workload, and currently averages 15 to 20 clients per week. Her clients range from young to old, injured to athletic, and businesslike to artsy. No matter what their goals, she gently nurtures them to honor the gift of the body by optimizing their posture and movement patterns.

Anita has been dancing with FatChanceBellyDance® and instructing classes for well over a decade. In her workshops and classes, Anita shares with her students her passion and belief in the transformative power of music and dance. “As a dancer, it’s taken me a long time and on my dance journey, I have made every possible mistake you could possibly make. Let me help you understand and recognize that the mistakes you are making are a crucial component of your learning process. …And maybe I can help you avoid making the mistakes I’ve made!” You can find Anita on Facebook (once in a while), on her website, or at

Jesse Stanbridge

Jesse Stanbridge
Jesse’s love affair with ATS® began when she saw her first FatChanceBellyDance® performance in 2002. She fell in love instantly with the graceful display of feminine strength. Upon moving to London in 2005, Jesse was determined to foster and shape the UK’s burgeoning ATS® community. As co-founder of Moirai Tribal with Philippa Moirai, Jesse performed ATS® and hosted dance events throughout the UK. She continued to seek every opportunity to study with Carolena and FCBD®, and received her Teacher Training certification in 2008.

In 2012, Jesse relocated to the San Francisco Bay Area. She feels incredibly lucky to study and teach at the FCBD® studio, and performs regularly with Tessera Tribal Belly Dance, a FCBD® Studio Troupe. As a teacher, she enjoys infusing students with confidence and a sense of accomplishment. She loves building the dance community and forming connections with fellow dancers. In 2016, Jesse became the co-manager of Studio SF and co-director of the FCBD® performance group alongside Sofia Salazar-Rubio.

Kae Montgomery

Kae Montegomery
Hello everyone! I am so thrilled and honored to be teaching and sharing my passion for ATS® again at ATS Reunion! In 2007 I packed my dreams, determination, and a bit of belongings into two suit cases and moved from Japan to San Francisco, the mecca of belly dance to study with the luminaries of this art form. I’ve studied directly under Carolena Nericcio and have been a member of FatChanceBellyDance® for seven years. Additionally, I trained under Kami Liddle and have been a member of Gold Star Dance Company for over three years.

I feel so lucky to have been invited to share my passion for dance in over 15 countries and many cities across the United States. The best part of my travels has been meeting so many hard working, dedicated, beautiful dancers and I can’t wait to meet you in my workshops at ATS Reunion; we’ll have so much fun!

Kelley Beeston

Kelley Beeston
Kelley Beeston is known for her inclusive, approachable teaching style often structuring her workshops holistically around a theme or concept. Her innate ability to break things down and simplify the most difficult steps and ideas has earned her a reputation as a thorough and knowledgeable teacher. In 2008 she launched her Oasis workshops, much loved by ATS® students, teachers and Sister Studios in the UK. Kelley’s passion radiates through, in her workshops, both at home and abroad, weekly classes and when performing with her troupe, Kalash Tribal.

Based in SW England she regularly travels to the ‘mothership’ and has attended and performed at all three Homecoming events in the instructor showcase and with her special ensemble ‘Troupe Britannia.’ She became a Sister Studio Continuing Education Instructor, graduating from Advanced Teacher Training in June 2015 and is honoured to have been invited to teach both General Skills and Teacher Training alongside Carolena and Megha in 2016 and to assist in 2017. Kelley is currently working with Carolena Nericcio-Bohlman on their Sister to Sister projects empowering women in the Democratic Republic of Congo.

Kristine Adams

Kristine Adams
Kristine Adams counts herself lucky enough to have been a FCBD® troupe member since 2005, studying directly under Carolena Nericcio-Bohlman since 2003. This means being in the studio 3+ days a week, blood sweat and tears, side by side with the greats of ATS® ie: Carolena Nericcio-Bohlman, Wendy Allen, Anita Lalwani, Sandi Ball, Marsha Poulin, Colette Todorov, Jessie Gauld, Karen Gehrman, and the likes.

Her message, “I know my ATS®. Make sure to take advantage of this unique opportunity to learn from me as I wind my way around the world. I can’t wait to sweat it out with all you lovelies!”

Michiyo Salisbury

Michiyo Salisbury
From the very first time Michiyo saw ATS® she knew that it would become a life passion. What greater way to respect the years of pleasure than to dedicate herself to perfecting not only the form but the teaching of the dance so that others may learn the amazing experience which is ATS®.

In 2014, after years of regularly commuting to the Bay Area to study, Michiyo moved closer to the source in order to immerse herself in pure ATS®. This, in addition to her skill in both dance and tuition allows Michiyo to ensure her students master the complexities of learning a group dance whether it be remotely or in a studio.

In 2015, Michiyo graduated Advanced Teacher Training in San Francisco. The intensive two weeks of training with Carolena and Megha enabled Michiyo to further strengthen her skills in both dance and the teaching of ATS®.

Sandi Ball

Sandi Ball
Studying with Carolena Nericcio-Bohlman and FatChanceBellyDance® since the summer of 1998; performing and teaching with FCBD® since 2003, Sandi Ball has experienced American Tribal Style® at the source, throughout many of its progressions.  Her focus maintains much of the earthy origins of tribal improvisation – creating inside the immediate experience, collective thinking within the group, and the understanding that the key to the success of a performance is at the center of the circle.

As FCBD® Instructor, Emerita, Sandi continues to enjoy bringing her experience and knowledge of ATS® to the world through her eyes.  She has many great workshops to offer and enjoys collaborating with hosts to customize topics that best fit their students’ needs.  From fundamental technique in movement to advanced performance coaching, to fun, specialty workshops on spinning, floor work, formations, musicality, artistry in ATS®, straight-up drilling, and more!  She loves to travel, meeting other dancers and looks forward to bringing ATS® to all parts of the world.

Wendy Allen

Wendy Allen
Dance came a bit later in life to Wendy, but once she discovered ATS®, it ignited her passion for movement and music.

She was with the FatChanceBellyDance® studio for 20 years, in the professional company for 15, and has been teaching for 13.

She departed from FCBD® in 2016, but as an FCBD Emerita, she continues to share her love of classic ATS® with anyone who will listen.
