(alphabetically by first name)

Carolena Nericcio

Carolena Nericcio-Bohlman
Carolena Nericcio is the dynamic founder of the worldwide dance phenomenon called American Tribal Style® Dance. An early fascination of permanent body adornment lead 8-year old Carolena to request that her father, Carl, a collector himself, to buy a ring she could “wear always and not take off.” This concept evolved into the study of folkloric textiles, a body full of tattoos, and a collection of jewelry and textiles from around the world. The discovery of belly dance led to the creation of her own dance style, American Tribal Style® (ATS®) Belly Dance. FatChanceBellyDance® was founded by Carolena Nericcio in 1987 and immediately captured the attention of audiences worldwide with stunning dance performances featuring majestic costuming and layers of tribal jewelry. The music, a carefully chosen collection of both traditional sounds and modern fusion adds to the effect. American Tribal Style® looks old, but it is actually new.

Megha Gavin

Megha Gavin
Megha is the Director of Devyani Dance Company and Co-Director of Tribal Pura International. She administrates the Sister Studio Continuing Education program and Advanced Teacher Training programs offered by Tribal Pura International, a division of FatChanceBelllyDance®. Megha began performing very early in life. She took her first dance classes at about the age of four and has been creating and performing ever since. Theatre soon caught her attention and that was her passion throughout her schooling years. It was in 1996 that she discovered American Tribal Style® Bellydance and immediately shifted her focus to this art form. In San Francisco, Megha studied ATS® with the originator of the style from 1996-1998. Upon returning to the Southeast, she began teaching ATS® classes in order to create a community of people to dance with. She was the first to offer these classes in this region and has continued teaching pure ATS for the last 18 years. She continues to teach and perform at sold out workshops across the country and around the world both individually and on the Tribal Pura International tour with her teacher/partner, Carolena Nericcio. In 2003, Megha completed teacher certification with Carolena Nericcio (creator of ATS® and founder of FatChance BellyDance®) and entered into an exclusive partnership with her. They now take their love and appreciation of this elegant dance style in its original form on the road to co-teach the technique and artistic vision created by Carolena over the last 25 years.

Anita Lalwani

Anita Lalwani
Growing up in Fairview Park, Ohio, Anita Lalwani was a bookworm. While she dabbled in athletics (tennis, skiing, and even synchronized swimming!), it was not until she moved to San Francisco and met Carolena Nericcio that she fell in love with American Tribal Style® (ATS®) bellydance. She has devoted her life to helping others find happiness through movement. A certified yoga teacher since 2005, Anita currently teaches four vinyasa flow and two yin/restorative yoga classes per week at the Fitness SF gyms in the Castro and mid-market neighborhoods in San Francisco. In 2008, she added one-on-one personal fitness training to her workload, and currently averages 15 to 20 clients per week. Her clients range from young to old, injured to athletic, and businesslike to artsy. No matter what their goals, she gently nurtures them to honor the gift of the body by optimizing their posture and movement patterns. Anita has been dancing with FatChanceBellyDance® and instructing classes for well over a decade. In her workshops and classes, Anita shares with her students her passion and belief in the transformative power of music and dance. “As a dancer, it’s taken me a long time and on my dance journey, I have made every possible mistake you could possibly make. Let me help you understand and recognize that the mistakes you are making are a crucial component of your learning process. …And maybe I can help you avoid making the mistakes I’ve made!” You can find Anita on Facebook (once in a while), on her website, AnitaLalwani.com or at Anita@FCBD.com.

Jorden has been studying ATS® since 2008 and is a founding member of Kamalah Tribal Dance Company. She became Co-Director of Kamalah Tribal in 2010. Erin began studying ATS® with Lenay and Jorden in 2010 and was a member of Kamalah Tribal from 2013 to 2017. She started teaching and formed Kairos Tribal with Robin Dodder in 2017. Several years ago, a Phoenician drummer, Ramsey Gonzales, lamented to Erin that dancers frequently bring recorded music to open stage events rather than utilizing the drummers present. In response, Erin proposed a system which allows dancers to request tempo and rhythm changes via zil cues during improv performances with live music. Erin and Jorden collaborated with drummers in the local dance community to develop the Ramsey Method in 2015 and, having taught this method within the Phoenix and Spokane ATS® communities, are excited to share it at ATS® Reunion.

Sandi Ball & Wendy Allen

Studying with Carolena Nericcio and FatChanceBellyDance® since the summer of 1998; performing and teaching with FCBD® since 2003, Sandi Ball has experienced American Tribal Style® at the source, throughout many of its progressions.  Her focus maintains much of the earthy origins of tribal improvisation – creating inside the immediate experience, collective thinking within the group, and the understanding that the key to the success of a performance is at the center of the circle. As FCBD® Instructor, Emerita, Sandi continues to enjoy bringing her experience and knowledge of ATS® to the world through her eyes.  She has many great workshops to offer and enjoys collaborating with hosts to customize topics that best fit their students’ needs. From fundamental technique in movement to advanced performance coaching, to fun, specialty workshops on spinning, floor work, formations, musicality, artistry in ATS®, straight-up drilling, and more!  She loves to travel, meeting other dancers and looks forward to bringing ATS® to all parts of the world.
Dance came a bit later in life to Wendy, but once she discovered ATS®, it ignited her passion for movement and music. She was with the FatChanceBellyDance® studio for 20 years, in the professional company for 15, and has been teaching for 13. She departed from FCBD® in 2016, but as an FCBD® Emerita, she continues to share her love of classic ATS® with anyone who will listen.
